Poor add-on progression, is this allowed?

Hi ok, so C5studio have released a new testimonials add-on, which they say is more feature rich than the previous one, however, the only real difference is that it has an updated interface for 5.5+
I thought that the beauty of Concrete5 was that the add-on were updated with the progression of the core UI, if this is allowed what is to stop other developers just releasing 'new' versions each time there is a core UI change?
I have in the past bought blocks of add-ons knowing that they wouldn't 'expire' as i have with this very add-on, i now have a half dozen purchases that are effectivly out-of-date!
Come-on team, how was this approved, surely:
