Profile and Display Followers or Friends icon list in sidebar

Hello, I am creating a profiles section on a clients site and wanted to have a friends profile images list on the side bar to display.

Has anyone done this before and if so can you point me in the right direction to display the friends profile images?

check out the root/concrete/single_pages/profile/friends.php page. Might be a good starting point.
