Topic Pinging:
Have read the docs and instructions several times but still not understanding how to set up my blogs, categories etc. for making the Pingback Block work perfectly
I want to scrape for pingbacks into and out of my blog. not just one ping at a time.
First, I have placed the trackback block on each blog page. no problem
But then running into issues with one final instruction;
I have installed C5 V 5.6.1 using the Slate Theme
.
Point 1: if you have updated to v5, the pb_post pagetype has changed and added a new area type. make sure you add that to any root/theme level overrides for the pb_post page_type.
I have reviewed this in pagetype, and have seen pb_post but do not know how to add that to the root/theme level overrides??? I might not even need to be doing this and I just do not know enough to figure it all out.
I have read several topics on root/theme overrides on C5 how-to but still not really understanding what to do.
i need some advise here or thoughts
thx

Hi and thx for the reply
My posts etc. look good so I do not want to change anything
on the pinging.
Here is the deal
I am starting to use a program called Scrapebox for much of my SEO, ping and other and other contact building work for my website.
My intent is to help build referrer traffic to my site thru its ping .mode and capacity.
1) Does C5 (I am using V 5.6.1) have the capacity to indicate or store referrer traffic info website url, etc) into my website?? If yes, then how and where do i find the info collected once i am pinged by another site??
2) Is there a capacity with C5 to ramp up my comments on each of my blog pages and to produce clickable links within a blog. I have tried a few times to place a clickable link inside a blog, but get a 400 message each time. does not make sense to me?? I know I can do the anchor words and set those up. Doing the anchor words is that listed in C5 somewhere???
3) You make a comment at the end of your thoughts about the pages block would do better for that, on referring for my website... what pages block etc. are you exactly referring to here ??
any further thoughts or help most appreciated

1) if your theme does not have a pb_post page_type, and you are happy with how blog pages look in your theme already, then you should not need to override anything. The app will use your theme's view.php + problog packages pb_post page_type.
1.b) if your theme DOES have a pb_post, or you see a pb_post in your root /page_types folder, then you need to make sure that it has an area name somewhere of 'Blog Post Trackback'
2) The trackback block also assumes that you have a standard C5 guestbook block for comments. If your pb_post page_type is modeled after what is demonstrated in the package, this block should be present in the 'Blog Post More' block area on your blog posts.
3) all this block dose is:
a.) scrape the article being published for any links/references to other articles.
b.) pingback those urls found and see if XMLRPC is enabled (typically only wordpress sites).
c.) if said link is XMLRPC compatible, leave a comment on that blog post stating said site has been referenced on your site.
d.) make any given article in YOUR blog XMLRPC compliant in that any article referencing your site that has pingback capability will then leave an article reference comment in the comments area of said post.
That's it.
I am not sure what your are attempting to do or why. But this is primarily for cross site mentions. That's all. Not at all advantageous in reference to your own website. The related pages block would better perform that task.
