Selling products through a third party site

Hi,
I am exploring the option of selling items in my website. I am looking at doing this using a third party website, similiar to eBay/Amazon.
Would I need to have the eCommerce Add on installed?
Regards
Barry

No you don't. eCommerce is a package which allows you to sell products from your c5 installation without the need of a third party.
Thanks, and if I wanted to sell items on my site and I purchased the eCommerce Add On, would this cover the requirement to secure the website for Credit Card payments etc. If I had PayPal would I need to secure the site.
Check out the PayPal gateway add-on in the marketplace.
Other way around. If you use eCommerce on your site, you will also need a payment gateway.
That could be Paypal, or your own bank. It is that checkout process that may need to be secured through a secure socket layer (SSL)
If you just send people to paypal, they handle the SSL for you.

If you use PayPal, the card transaction happens on PayPal so SSL is not needed. If you use other merchant service portals, the entire transaction is on your site and you do need SSL.
By the way, eCommerce will work without installing security... but its unlikely anyone would buy from you
edit: too slow typing :(
Ya... like Franz said :)

Great, thanks for your help guys. If I could label them all best answers I would :-)
By the way, really analyze how elaborate a store management system you need. I have used Concrete5 eCommerce on several medium - large sites and couldn't be happier with how it works and tracks.
I also have used eCommerce Express and Paypal for a lower volume small site ( it does the job well but is harder to track inventory and sales etc) and for a very small site used the PayPal buttons add-on... set and forget.

I you want to build a store you can use a third party to sell your products. You build your own store. Try electronionline.biz if your are interested to sell electronics.
