Site Maintenance - deleting old versions of C5
Permalink
Hi Guys,
I hope someone can help me here. I have built around 50 x C5 websites now and keep them up to date.
One thing I have noticed is that the footprint of C5 is just growing. When I first installed it it was 3,000 files that needed FTPing over, then 6,000 and now I am backing up a current site and it is 17,000 files.
Of course each time I add blocks, content etc, I am increasing the footprint, but each time I upgrade the new version seems to be added, thus making the footprint much bogger.
So my query is around this area:
- Can historic versions of C5 be deleted without damaging the current installation?
- If so is there a guide?
My concern is that sites will just keep growing and getting blaoted with tons of redundant legacy files filling server space, which can't be good?

If you feel like living dangerously and are confident you have a successful upgrade, you can copy it over the core and remove the pointer in config/site.
For database size, my newly release 'Extreme Clean' addon can help. Just be sure to backup first and fully understand what it is removing!
