Site Performance

I am running 5.4 (on Godaddy) and having serious load time issues. I read the doc on performance and I am checking with godaddy on zend or apc. In lieu of that I wonder if anyone could take a look to see if the problem is possibly at the theme level. I have edited the /elements/required_header.php file as recommended but no result.

Thank you for any input. Also feel free to let me know what you think of the design efforts. I am still in the building process. So, look out for my mess.

I did a reverse IP lookup on the domain...there are over 3000 domains on that one IP...which means that you're sharing that server with 3000+ other sites. Honestly, I'd recommend hosting with someone other than GoDaddy. You could always host with C5host for I think $15/month which isn't bad at all. Outside of that, I'd highly recommend HostGator. Been with them for a few years and never had any issues, even with C5 sites. GoDaddy is great for domain registration, but their hosting is pretty bad in my experience.

Just a note that AFAIK Hostgator shared / reseller plans do not have APC available

Thank you for the input. I have previously used hostgator 4+ years ago for my dedicated hosting servers and had terrible stability issues. Have they made significant improvements to customer service and support in that time?

Also, [thephilm] are you saying that unless you have a dedicated or virtual dedicated server you can't get APC?

Thanks again for the input. I will begin to look for alternate hosting. I have three accounts and growing right now so I don't necessarily want to spend 15.00 a mo. per account right now..

For small/basic sites, I've had good stability with hostgator's reseller hosting for over 5 years, however Concrete5 sites in that account have performed very slowly - I cannot recommend it for C5. Might consider a VPS or dedicated box.

In one way or another I've used Hostgator for about 4 years or so.
Their service is not too bad, but I did find that their solution tended to be rebooting the server instead of fixing the root cause.

My stats show 98-99% Uptime for dedicated server through Hostgator. They use ThePlanet as their datacenter, and really all you are getting from them is the cpanel/whm and management of the server. The connection isn't bad at all.

I haven't actually talked to a rep about APC on hostgator, but from the chart on their site it looks like it's only VPS and Dedicated for APC.

I've been asking around the forums about the Concrete5 hosting, and I'm still deciding.

I can tell you that I'm on Dreamhost - and with them - anything that has to do with MySQL seems to really drag down the site. I'm going to try to install APC on one of my accounts and see how that helps. I'll post something on the forums when I finish.

I would NOT recommend HostGator.

I'm a big believer in having your website hosts servers located in the country you are serving - i.e. here in New Zealand most NZ websites target NZ users.

If you are based in the US, go with the hostinghttp://www.concrete5.org provides.

Thank you all for the input and suggestions. I did some research and I have set up my primary site with hostmonster.com based on the reviews i read and a discussion with their support team. I am please so far and I have a money back guarantee if not. Thank you for the wisdom.
