Ssl and corecommerce

how are people handling ssl with corecommerce? A single name certificate or certificate that handles more then one domain ie subdomains.
If for instance I want to map shopping.domain.com to the shop section of my site using domain mapper. do I need a multi-domain certificate or does corcommerce process the transaction through the aliased domain. I am capable of installing root certificates or using apache+openssl.
