We're debating about it - chat going in #concrete5-social. I don't know exactly what the rules on price for paid add-ons are, it might be that everything needs to be free for the non-profit. Waiting to hear back from an acquaintance of mine that works for the Nerdery to find out how they set things up, if we can all join one team and for sure use C5, we're all over it.
I think with 5-10 people banging on a site simultaneously we'd need about 1/4 of the given 24 hours... :)

I'd like to do it, but my skills I'd be done with everything I _could_ do on a c5 site in 24 hours pretty quickly, I could handle themes and marketplace addons (and theming those) all day, but wouldn't really know what to do in helping a non-profit on the other aspects.
One thing I'd think would work well to do something that had 'what would the top add-ons for _any_ non profit be' - stuff like CRM, social media integration, etc. Mailing lists control. Galleries with comments. Then we have that setup as a 'base' install, and see how many non-profits we could process over a 24 hour period...
I would say if the core team was coming out here for a road trip this year, this might be the best opportunity to come out, it would be a great way to get a lot of buzz about the CMS and get it in front of a whole lot of other shops and developers that might not otherwise hear about it...

this is the kinda thing we'd love to do, but I'm afraid its a bit early in the year for us.
To be frank given the holistic needs of the charities, I think the biggest challenge for this thing will be putting the PM and business side of the team together.. any agency with experience working together is going to have a huge advantage, regardless of toolset used.

We'd like to take time while we're there to demo or show off concrete5, so if you have any informational packets that you hand out at your shows, would we be able to get some before this challenge?

This is a really cool idea.
I can't offer much, but I'd happily throw in a license (or many of them) for our Beanstream Payment Gateway. Beanstream does have reduced pricing for registered NFPs (lower setup costs, lower per transaction fees, and lower discount rates).
I can provide access to a Sandbox account for the event while the Gateway paperwork is being processed if you want to Beanstream for a charity site.
Good luck at the event.

This is actually a year old. We did well at the challenge despite some frustrating server issues. We were in the half of teams that actually finished, but didn't quite place in the top 3.
A year later, those of us crazy enough to do it again are being nudged in to working with our respective companies. Last year was such a success, businesses are starting to get in to it.
With that said, I think it's time we get the old team back together for our community groups. Any interest? I know lucas mentioned interest on twitter. I'm willing to bet it'd be a lot larger now.
