Try before you buy

I am setting up a couple of sites for some non-profits and will need functionality provided by existing add-ons. I see no problem buying them from my own pocket (2 weeks+ of my own time aren't cheaper), but I prefer to know that they match the requirements well enough.
Is there a demo site with all the add-ons enabled? If not, is it only me who thinks it should exist? (after all the eCommerce add-on has a demo site...)
BTW, are the add-ons installed as plain php files, or are they mangled/encrypted? I have this "business plan" about contributing patches to commercial stuff in exchange for rebates :-)
regards,
Vlad

I agree, I have not purchased blocks, not know the full usage of how the blocks looks/feels for the end user. Worst thing is buying add-on and end up shelving them because they did not meet the expectation of the end user or myself. One dev block option would be great for us to setup on a site that the end users could see it working on their theme, not just a screen show or some plain looking sandbox site. –Frank
I suggest contacting the addon author. Most of us have a sandbox site set up for updates and testing already.
I have allowed several people to admin mine for test driving.

That would work, yes, but it feels only a half-measure.
A demo site with all add-ons doesn't feel like a very complicated thing to maintain and it would serve as a marketing platform too -- even if I am only interested in the calendar, maybe I like the blog too...
