Upgrade pre-launch site to 5.5 now or wait for "stable" label?
I have a site that is about to go live and wonder if I should upgrade it from 5.4.2.2 to 5.5 before launching.
On the downloads page 5.5 is conspicuously NOT listed as the "latest stable version".
Any opinions on whether to wait for the "stable" version?
Yeah, classic risk-tolerance question, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.
ps - one wrinkle is that I'm about to create some tutorial videos and because 5.5 is such a big shift in look and experience it seems silly to have to recreate the videos in the near future.

5.5 isn't stable because not enough add-ons have been upgraded yet. I'd wait for 5.5.1 and use that tho, it'll fix a bunch of small bugs.
That's exactly what I needed to hear, thanks!
I've been developing a site that will go live on 4th Jan. Today I decided to see if the site would break if updated from 5.4 to 5.5. I'm about 6 hours into using 5.5 and so far smooth sailing. I assume some luck with the addons I've choosen as all seem to work.
So far no reason to roll back to 5.4 - Why not take you existing site backup, upgrade and test? It might be smooth for you too.

I'm still conflicted, but think I'll opt for the path of least immediate resistance, which is sticking with 5.4.2.2. It's very tempting, but it can wait until later. Next c5 build will definitely be in 5.5 and then I can get familiar with the new bits.
By the way... I don't remember marking a "best answer" for this thread... can someone do that beside the thread-starter?

If your new site uses few add-ons (or at least just block based add-ons), then I think there's little risk in moving to 5.5.0. If you're dependent on many third party add-ons, particular those that implement dashboard single pages then there's more risk of things not working as you want.
I upgraded my own add-on equipped production site to 5.5.0 and had no issues with the upgrade and everything has worked brilliantly so far.
If you have concerns, backup your file system and DB and you can always reinstate.
Re best answer - I think the admins can award those too. You might be able to change it though.

frz did it for this post, but anyone with more than 500 posts can too.
I upgraded my site to 5.5.0 a few days ago.
I have only found a few glitches in the "core", biggest one being permissions. Editor level users can't use the dashboard.
My real problems started with my add-on's. Several are not supported. Even ProBlog & ProEvents, which are supposed to be updated to 5.5.0.
I am in the process of rolling back now...
I would wait.

Did you report that editor bug in the bug tracker?

I've got a list going. Have not submitted yet.
Precisely why I'll wait until at least 5.5.1 for this one. It's been a long-delayed project and to encounter a speed bump now would be demoralizing. That said, I won't hesitate to use 5.5 on my next new project.
re - best answer - there's no obvious way to change the best answer except to assign a new one. Don't think this question really HAS a best answer... just opinions.
