viewing a webpage in a lightbox
Permalink
Hi Guys,
Hope you can help me.
I was wondering if it is possible to have other pages on my site come up in a light-box effect when a user clicks on the link to that page and not load the page.
I think this would improve my site as it would take less time to load and would mean that users are not having to navigate to a lot of different pages and would keep them viewing my site for a longer period of time.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

Hi Wagdi,
thanks for this.....it does most of what i want it to do...but it won't allow a whole webpage to be viewed in a fancybox which is what i would like if it can be done.
also being able to use a text link rather than a picture would be a lot better too.
any ideas??

Q: but it won't allow a whole webpage to be viewed in a fancybox..
A: Apologies.. I should've clarified that you'll need to select 'external URL' for the options to adjust lightbox dimensions.
Q: also being able to use a text link rather than a picture would be a lot better too.
A: As far as I know, there are options (using the wysiwyg editor) to open text links in a new window (you can adjust dimensions) but not using a light-box.
Another option would be to take a screenshot of the text in question and use that to launch the lightbox (with the 'fancy image links' add-on), use the 'Title caption' to display the required text to the user.
Here is an example ( http://bit.ly/LGH0x9 - click on the images at the bottom for a demo ), Hope it helps. Maybe someone with a better understanding can shed some light on this subject?

Hello Robert, Have a look at this websitehttp://ashillvillagehall.co.uk

Hi,
Not sure I understand?
Content has to load regardless of where it comes from, unless it is maybe Flash or Ajax.
A 'lightbox' is a box, not a page. It will still have to be downloaded.
If a website is coded correctly using CSS there is no reason to try anything else?
CSS = Cascading Style Sheet, meaning once used, always used. So no reload and no wait. Only the content changes.
You could have hidden content that appears with a javascript or css call.
But if want instant, use Flash. But remember iPhones and iPads will not see your content.
Rather strange question?

hi 55webdesign,
i have got exactly what i needed from the first reply to the post.....what i wanted was when i click on a link on my site to view another page on it i.e. on the home page click a link to view an article and then have that article appear in a lightbox/fancybox instead of navigatigating away from the home page!!
thanks for the reply though.
