What happened to my homepage??

As instructed, I enabled Pretty URL's and copied the code given to my .htaccess file.
All the pages work just fine EXCEPT for the homepage. When I type in the bare URL (www.stpaulwartburg.org OR stpaulwartburg.org) all that appears is a blank page with a Concrete5 logo at the top left (when logged in or not).
I can "force" the homepage to appear by adding "/index.php?cID=1" after the url, but when I just type in the url, it doesn't show up and the homepage won't load.
This also raises a question: why won't the friendly URL work for the homepage (/home/)? I've read other discussions on this and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer. But more importantly I NEED my homepage to work by just typing in the bare url!!
