What the hell happened to the dashboard?
Permalink 3 users found helpful
Just upgraded to the latest c5 after using an old version for some time. The first thing I noticed was the tiny pissy little dashboard.
WTF? Not impressed at all.
Why do designers and developers always insist on forcing lots of info into tiny little mickey mouse pop-ups?
It's like trying to work in a phonebox.
Anyway, is there any option to restore the old dashboard so that we can all work on a full size screen instead of the useless little default abomination?

Thanks, but not quite sure what you're getting at.
There is no "View Full Dashboard" link that I can see, unless you just meant the Dashboard icon in the menu bar.
In any event, I tried using the star icon and it didn't really seem to change anything.
Also, I have noticed that there are about five addons in the Marketplace to return some of the old dashboard functionality, although you have to pay for most of them.
I might give them a try once my frustration dies down.
Obviously a lot of people feel the same way about the tiny dashboard interface.

I have attached a screenshot of what my drop-down dashboard menu looks like now that I clicked all the little stars. I circled the 'View Full Dashboard' link at the bottom.
What version were you on before updating to 5.6?

Oh, you're talking about the footprint of the dashboard pages? I
thought you were looking for a single place to get to everything -
which you can get to by clicking instead of rolling over the dashboard
button in your toolbar. Also play with intelligent search, its really
handy.
Yeah, uhh, people generally like 5.5/5.6 a LOT more than 5.4. It's way
faster to get to what you need to do easily. There's thousands using
it and a dozen or two people who vehemently hate change posting a year
ago. Welcome to the future, it really is better. Some dashboard pages
can be wider than others, but frankly when you add in the old sidebar
navigation we're really not giving up much real-estate, for a vastly
less overwhelming experience.
I do agree that you don't seem to be in the right mood to play with it
however.. ;)
I can also offer that it has grown on some folk who didn't instantly
respond to it.
best wishes

Yeh,
let me play with it while and see if it grows on me.

click the dashboard button instead of just using the drop down.
Oh, and that star in the corner of any dashboard page controls if it
shows up in the drop down.

OK,
slight misunderstanding here of terminology.
The dashboard I get when I click the dashboard button reveals what I call a tiny screen. IE It's not full screen size.
In any event, I can see the issue with the new dashboard has been debated at length elsewhere in these forums, so I'll just add my vote to those who think it is a retrograde step.
Treat your complaints like gold. Always remember that 90% of people won't complain, they will quietly take their business elsewhere.

Try this:

I think the core team was trying to give users choices as to how they would like their dashboard displayed. I personally think the default should have been 'full display and let me get rid of stuff if I want to' but I'm not leaving C5 because of this.

I'd actually extend that thinking - treat any feedback as the tip of an iceberg of agreement in that direction.
Love it or hate it, there's always a silent majority.
We certainly listen to all feedback.

@mdg... I'm not sure I understand what you would like to see. I have attached a full screen version of the dashboard and it's mostly whitespace. Do you really want it to look like that?
@Frz... I have attached a screenshot/mockup of where I would like to see the stars so I can add/subtract whole sections at a time.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
I also didn't like the restrictions of the new '1st-level' dashboard but I took a few minutes to change it. It's tedious but hang in there.
Click on the 'View Full Dashboard' and then click on 'Themes'. You will see a star in the top corner. If you click that star, a link to the 'Themes' area will be added to your 1st-level dashboard area. The tedious part is opening every single dashboard sub-area you want to add and clicking that damned star.
It would have been nice if they either left it as it was or given us a single star that would add a whole section at a time.
