Where is the code?

Sorry to be so basic, but can anyone tell me how to see the code. I keep monitoring the discussions and I see add.php here or there will be a fix posted and it says to add it to directory such and such.
Where does this code reside related to being able add or repair the program and to view it. Will I need to go the hosting site and open a browsers or ftp client.
I can view page source by right clicking, but there is not editing ability.
I understand the paperclip icon. Just have done not code changing. I have only worked within the editing function of C5.
Thanks
Merry Christmas

You're referring to code attachments in posts, right? Look for an icon next to the reply icon that looks like two paper clips (and a number). If you click on the icon you will be presented with an option for downloading the attached files.

there's a paperclip underneath a message if there's an attachment available

Thanks For the reply.
I under stand the paper clip. Suppose I find come code line that seem to be what I need, and I click download.
The files are downloaded tom my machine.
How do I get to see the remaining code in my install so I can determine where this new code should be uploaded?
Let's say I want to look an my install and would like to edit code or add files. I know my C5 in being hosted at my bluehost server. I would like to know what software is needed to help solve problem with the functioning of my C5.
I upgraded to 5.3.3.1 and the editing frames are screwed up. My site was working perfectly until I did the install. Now the photo slide show is missing and nothing I seem to do helps.
I downloaded a gallery into a red dotted line space because the slide disappeared.
Now the thum nails are behind the main photo and the phot is squeezed to about 2 inches tall.

If someone offers me to go to the php how do i copy and past that into the software.
Thanks.
