Why are the simple things SO HARD TO USE???????
PermalinkNow I'm going through the exercise (as every consultant should do) of actually using concrete5 before I recommend to my clients.
I AM SOOOOOOO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW. Do I REALLY have to read through all your documentation before I can change my site name and Logo image???? (still haven't figured out the image).
This is probably an incredible CMS but if I have to learn Latin, Greek and Portuguese just to post that my company is having a sale this week (which is what my customers will think about the instructions) then I am hip deep in you-know-what.
Why is this so difficult????
things small business owners (or non-profits, or other organizations, etc.) want to do is:
- change the name of the site (scrapbook? Really?)
- change the header image to be their logo (still don't know how)
- easily change content - since the first two were so difficult why should I even think that I could add text or an image much less a video.
Life shouldn't be this hard. Is there a document I should read first and then try out and then paraphrase for my clients before I even think of suggesting concrete5 over something like Pimcore or TomatoCMS?
Please help me here.
But then I come up with the slideshow image thing that's part of the standard install and to replace I FINALLY figured out to just delete the block and add my own still image.
My real problem is that my clients (hair salons, exercise gyms, massage salons, hardware stores, furniture stores, etc.) are staffed with people who will never get this without lots and lot of instruction.
Again, thanks for your help.
You're right however, we didn't sit down and architect a tool for my Mom to design and manage a website with. Our focus has always been on the site developer, site owner relationship. In that light I think you'll find concrete5 does an exceptional job of letting a typical office worker take a nicely designed site and run with it in new directions without having to call their agency every day.
As I hope you've found, you can change your site name through the global scrapbook in the dashboard. You can insert an image into that content block, or what-have-you. If you don't want an image slideshow in the header, try clicking that block and hitting delete. You'll also find that in the sample content for version 5.4.1 we actually link to answers to some of these common questions that have matured as the community has found new uses for our software we never expected.
It is important as it allows any developer to see very quickly how the scrapbook works when evaluating concrete5 for the first time. The scrapbook is an extremely useful feature and a major selling point so it is important that people can see how it can be used.
concrete5 has been excellent addition to our service offering helping many of our design agencies to win new business when competing with proprietary CMSs and other Open Source projects.
Keep up the good work
See the thread below for the steps to change the site name. In summary, you go into dashboard->Scrapbook->Global Scrapbook. Then click Edit on My_Site_Name.
