Why is Concrete5 Sooo Slow?

Permalink 3 users found helpful
I just installed the latest version of Concrete, and have noticed right off the bat that whenever I try to edit or publish or go to the dashboard, everything loads very slowly. Has I have tried several different browsers. Is there a specific browser that seems to work best? My PC isn't the problem because other programs and sites are snappy. Must be something with Concrete. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have you installed C5 remotely (on a web host) or locally?

What version have you installed?

C5 is a bit heavier than other CMSes -- by way of providing a more intuitive development experience. But, there are a number of web hosting groups that provide appropriate server capacity to support it.

It is installed on my hosting service. Is it possible to install it locally on my PC? I installed version 6.1.2

5.6.1.2 is the latest and performance has been addressed.

There are methods of speeding up C5, but those typically are more relevant to larger sites with complex functionality that have been developed.

If you're having problems with simply editing the site to begin with, contacting your host is probably a good approach.

Hosting groups these days load literally thousands of sites on a single server with shared bandwidth. On this site, you'll find recommendations for those that other developers have had good success. Hopefully, though, you'll be able to resolve issues with your hosting group.

Could I design the site locally and then move it to the C5 on the server? I was able to install C5 locally with xammp, and it is a lot faster.

That's a preferred development approach, as you have mirrored environments in which to work. Search the C5 site for "migrating" a site.

Of course, on your system, you're running basically only a web server and a browser.

Your host is likely running thousands of sites on one system (albeit a pretty beefy one).

I doubt that you'll experience a performance boost by deploying in that fashion. Again, speaking to your web host is appropriate.
