404 error

Just a bit of background. This is my first real site I am building. The Concrete5 tools are amazing for beginners like me, but I am having an issue.

I searched a few keywords, but none were jsut like my problem. When I create a new page either from my [dashboard] or from [add page], I cna create it jsut fine, but once it is saved and I use the links on the site map or from the navigation at the top - I get the 404 error.

Now if I go to the [dashboard] and view the page from there, all looks fine.

any ideas?

fyi - just so its not me, you can visit my site and see if its doing it for others too

You have enabled pretty urls, or?

Did you past the code for pretty urls into your .htaccess file of your website?

Cheers

I think I remember clicking something about pretty urls yes but really I dont know what they're for, so it would be no loss at this point not to have them.

Your suggestion led me to somethign I clicked wrong stopping the whole site from working.

Yes, I had the Pretty URL checked and I don't know why because I don't know what it does, but below it, I thought restricting the site to non-public view was how to restrict some content.

Little did I know it restricted everything from beyond the main page.

Changed it to public and it works great now - thank you very much for the lead.

Now I have to figure out how to let people register as members.

siteroot/register.php works, or will work shortly. It isn't implicitly linked from anywhere in the version I am working with, but it is in fact there :)
