5.7 Add-Ons: What add-ons are needed for users of 5.6 to migrate, to attract new concrete5 users, and are missing from the marketplace?

Permalink 2 users found helpful
A migration tool has been released that allows for migrating 5.6 sites to 5.7.
https://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/customizing_c5/5.6-to-5.7...

As site owners start planning their migrations, they will be looking for 5.7 add-on equivalents to what they used in 5.6. This raises some overall questions about add-ons.

1. What 5.6 add-ons need a 5.7 equivalent?

2. What is missing from the marketplace?

3. What tasks/areas are currently not being addressed?

4. What add-ons do other content management systems, like WordPress, have that concrete5 could benefit from?

5. What audience needs are being underserved?
- non-technical users
- technical users
- designers
- developers

6. Are enough high quality add-ons being made? Add-ons good enough that other developers would use them?

7. Would a public todo list of add-ons that concrete5 needs be helpful in addressing this? Developers could review the list to see where they could fill a gap.

These are questions for everyone (non-technical users, technical users, designers, and developers). Please reply with your ideas, examples, and thoughts.

Current List:
1. advanced forms
2. events and booking
3. site analytics

Wow, that's good news, i'll try the migration tool a.s.a.p!

For missing add-ons needed for migration: Forms!
This is missing big time in 5.7, forms with more functionality then the core-block. Think rules/optionals, stepped form, customized reply etc. Formidable and ProForms for 5.6 are good examples.

And an event system. ProEvents is great, but it misses the forms (!) functionality to make it a usable booking-system.

@buurvrouw

There is an experienced core contributor who is working on an advanced form block as we speak.

Can you list all the form features you are looking for in specific detail. This will assist in making the add-on better.

Regarding ProEvents, can you offer more detail about how you would like forms integrated and your use case scenario.

My x-mas list for the form features that i'm looking for are those:

1. Conditionals; If field A has selected value 3, then show field B.
2. Stepped forms; First a collection of fields, after clicking 'next' button, the rest of the fields. This way the forms won't get very long.
3. It would be great if forms an be made in dashboard, so a single form is usable on different pages. In this case-scenario, the optionals are a must-have.
4. Customize possibilities on a per form base for auto-reply mails (text, mail-address, from address, from name, subject, included form fields
5. Hidden input to know what page the form comes from. For example when i have a form on an event-page for event X, the form reply mail should say 'event X', this can be a hidden field. (Hidden) Fields displaying page attributes would be awesome, regarding to event-pages.
6. Possibility for multiple file uploads without the need to add 5 upload fields. Would be great to have a button 'add another file'.
7. Possibility to add headings, text, spaces of lines between the fields

For interaction with ProEvents most default are in the above, but specific and a must-have for interaction with the add-on is communication with the specific ProEvent attributes. In ProEvents an event can have multiple dates, but is still just one event-page (and so just one form attached). For booking of an event, the right date should be selectable in the attached form.
And a possibility to calculate the price to pay for the event for a given amount of people. ProEvents has a price-field, (though it's just in american dollars), in the form i would have a question 'how many people', then the total price should appear. This should also be noted in the auto-reply. I guess a lot of form-functionality for the ProEvents should be like the functionality that's offered in the ProForms add-on for 5.6.

I'm just a designer, not a programmer, so i hope i'm specific enough in describing what's missing in form-functionality.

I would add a missing feature from the beginning:

- Add multiple fields on a single line.

- Placeholder text (different from title, as you may want to say "For example 123..." as placeholder)
- HTML before/after (in cases where you want an icon or some simple text)
- Possibility to wrap each field in a div (let's say "form-group" Bootstrap uses) and/or ability to add class name(s) to the wrapped div per input
- Some sort of rows and columns for the different frameworks (Bootstrap/Foundation), to have multiple inputs on 1 row

I can name tons of things and am willing to give as much input as needed. I've also thought about creating something like this, but unfortunately haven't got the time to do so. And as there already is 1 in the marketplace and someone else from the core team is working on one, I don't want to spend my time to make a third. I can provide input and test things along the way if needed.

Here is an update on Formidable for C5.7.

We have started a Kickstarter project to fund the rebuilding of the addon. With this kickstarter project I can reserve the time and resources to start building. Hope you are willing to help out!

Please go to:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1514257257/formidable-for-concr... and help us!

With your help we can free-up some time and resources to rebuild the best addon there is and make it available for the Concrete 5.7 community!

Best,

Corretje
