5.7.5.2 to 5.7.5.3 upgrade issues

While my upgrades on other installs went flawless, I have a dev install I can't upgrade.

I tried to upgrade from 5.7.5.2 to 5.7.5.3 (I always upgrade manually replacing the concrete folder and running index.php/ccm/system/upgrade ). It failed.
When I tried again, I got the message
"Your site is already up to date! The current version of concrete5 is 5.7.5.2."
I tried "Click here if you would like to re-run this script." which it did. Unfortunately, it still says
"Your site is already up to date! The current version of concrete5 is 5.7.5.2." regarless if I have the new Concrete5 folder or the old (I can rename back and forth, but the install behavior is the same. However, if I try and run the site with the 5.7.5.2 core, I can't edit pages, and when I put the 5.7.5.3 core back, editing works again.

So am I to assume the site did upgrade, but isn't reporting the version # correctly?.

In Environment now I noticed I have a TON of stuff listed under
concrete5 Overrides
most of which are not overrides (such as jpg & png image files, less files that aren't even used because they've been compiled, and a bunch of these lines
languages/nb_NO/LC_MESSAGES/messages.mo, languages/nb_NO/LC_MESSAGES, languages/nb_NO, languages/ja_JP/LC_MESSAGES/messages.mo, languages/ja_JP/LC_MESSAGES, languages/ja_JP, languages/sv_SE/LC_MESSAGES/messages.mo, languages/sv_SE/LC_MESSAGES, languages/sv_SE,

What the heck? I don't know if this is related to the upgrade issues or not,
Suggestions please! Anything is appreciated.

Is your upgrade path a typo?

index.php/ccm/system/upgrade

I wish it was that simple. The only typo was above. The problem remains unsolved.

I just check several different installations. Why are certain things consistently showing up in the ENVIRONMENT INFO in the OVERRIDES section that have NOTHING to do with overrides?
(such as .less files, image files, font files, it looks like sometimes ALL FILES in a theme are showing up here, heck even files like thumbs.db.)

Still no idea why.
