500 Internal Server Errors when creating pages, but pages are actually created successfully

This is a big problem for us. As I say, we create a page on the site map, then get an error. When we go back to the sitemap, the page is there.

We really need to sort this out but don't know where to start, so I'd really appreciate your help with this.

OK, it seems that it doesn't happen if we disable application events. But we definitely need application events enabled. Not sure if that helps to narrow things down...
