Add Block not working on existing site, really weird

Hi,

This is an ongoing site with no real problems apart from speed issues which I have boosted over the last few weeks with PHP tweaks.

However, I now go in today to add a couple of test images and go to Add Block and all I get is the spinning wheel on the white block, nothing loads.

I can paste from scrapbook items successfully into blocks, but none of my add ons are accessible as a block?

I see the path where Chrome is trying to access the blocks,http://www.destinationromsey.co.uk/index.php/dashboard/blocks/types... and get a blank page. That folder has nothing in it.

I have not deleted any blocks, I have had some issues on speed and css being cached, everytime I cleared jobs, I lost all the screen fonts as they were cached.

I have a site running for a while and had been getting problems with cache css, screen fonts not displaying and found that sites css was running from updates cache?

Anyone can help please, I can make edits to the site but nothing else.

Thanks

Nick

What, exactly do you mean by "PHP tweaks"?

Did the problems start before or after you upgraded to 5.6.2.1

Do you have a js/css optimisation addon, e.g. miser installed?

I note that Firebug is telling me you have three 404 errors:

"NetworkError: 404 Not Found -http://www.destinationromsey.co.uk/files/cache/css/creativity/css/r...
"NetworkError: 404 Not Found -http://www.destinationromsey.co.uk/files/cache/css/creativity/css/f...
"NetworkError: 404 Not Found -http://www.destinationromsey.co.uk/files/cache/css/creativity/css/t...

It makes me wonder whether your caching issues are the root of the problem. I would disable all the C5 caches, clear out the cache. Also disable any PHP cache e.g. memcache, APC etc and remove any caching addons. Yes, it'll slow your site, but it if it works..

Hi Jero,

Thanks for the reply.

I have just disabled all caching and cleared cache as you have suggested, yes the site is running slow.

It is weird, as I saw those three files with 404 errors previously and copied them across via FTP to that destination before I put this post in.

I went back in Chrome and could see that they were coming up again as 404 after your reply, so did it all again. Copied across the three files, actually saw them in the folder, refreshed the browser, still the same ones missing.

Went back to FTP and the three files had disappeared?

This was my problem with the site previously, I kept seeing my screen stylesheet going AWOL.

I have a number of sites I have done in C5, none have the problems of this one.

Thanks

Hi Jero,

I have had another missing file come up, when I am in edit mode, trying to add the block, which is my original problem. There is a 500 internal server error (http://www.destinationromsey.co.uk/index.php/tools/required/edit_area_popup.php?cID=1&arHandle=Footer-Copyright&atask=add&addOnly=0)

I think this is a javascript error, but I don't know what is missing, perhaps it is another missing file through cache?

I attach a screencap of what I am seeing, hope this helps.

Thanks again

Nick

Hi jero,

I have tried a few things here, including rolling back to 5.6.0 from 5.6.2.1 as I thought it may install missing files.

That made no difference, so updated again to 5.6.2.1 and found something odd, a trailing < at the foot of the page, see screencap.

Sorry, but I am really stumped, I cannot add any block, so it is really shutting down this site. I cannot work out if the error is in the theme, or in the core, that is why I did a rollback.

Anyone able to help please?

Thanks

Nick
