Add-ons and config for social networking

Hi everyone,
This was last asked in 2010, and I'd like to see what people think now: how would you set up a concrete5 social network site?
E.g., we're creating a "social network for dogs and their owners". A combination of Pinterest, Twitter, and OkCupid. The concrete5.org site is a really good start for what we're thinking about.
Obviously, there's a lot of custom work that'll be needed there, but I'm wondering if some of the basic social things exist, like friending, activity stream, etc.

Concrete does have a built-in profile / account system so users can register on your site. There is also a built-in private message system where registered users can send messages to each other.

Cometchat addon, which if you grab contact them and get the new 4.4 version. Its the best 65 bucks you will spend for a chat, and can easily expand to a host of faetures.http://www.cometchat.com/features/most-popular...
The instant chat translators are a large boon if its destined for an international stage. Some features do not come with the $65, make sure to check first.
There are a lot of social share add-ons as well for smaller things, but the large issue with social networks is private pages. The standard profile page can be used for most things but its helpful to have a page the user can edit, and others can see. To do this you need a private page via owner permmisons to create upon registration. Permissions to that page that user can edit, and advanced permissions so that they can only edit the info there not access anything else.
This same concept applies to folders created for the user at registration point, ex my gallery , my personal pics etc. Associating these folders with an image slider and content on the users created pages.
Another add-on which could be really awesome in a social network ishttp://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/social-feed/... so users can choose to display their other social engagements on their pages on your site. I don't know how much that applies to intended audience, but I think that most wouldn't mind the ability to display their feeds, on their pages.
Theres a couple of things that go with the above like who can view what and the setup for users controlling view permissions for their page, and that should cover the base of whats required.
