Adding an Item to the Header Area
Permalink
Hey all,
Slowly learning this new CMS. Still working on mytrucklube.com.
I am inspired and would like to add a piece of text (either as text or a jpg) in the header, like I've seen onhttp://www.techauto.com:
"Your local independently owned..."
But I'd like to have "Your local independently owned mobile commercial service and repair company" (with "independently owned" in bold).
I've tried:
editing the home page, adding a block, a stack, and some other stuff, but it doesn't seem to happen.
Once again I call on your knowledgeable ways.
And go easy on me - I am technically inclined, but no webmaster (yet)!

Hey,thanks Wagdi.
Looks good, kinda stuck on the way it looks on the other site, with all that info on the same line as the logo (including the FB, Twitter, and linkedin icons).
So I tried to make a 3 column header, but I think I really jacked it up...
Removed the "global" scrapbook, and then the text "my truck lube" is back. i think i can fix that, but how do i add all the other pieces?

I meant to actually include the text with the logo. So maybe using photoshop or illustrator.
I have done a quick example mock-up for you. See it on the home-page. You'll need to log in.

Looks good. Thanks for making the new logo with the text. Awesome.
Went to the scrapbook and renamed the "global_80" to "my_site_name" and the logo/text combo went back to the top left.
I noticed is that the menu bar is higher than the logo. How can they be are on the same level like that techauto.com site?
Also, really like the truck social icons. Awesome! He's going to like those! also, he has a linked in page, and would like that up as well. Where do you think we can fit all 3?
Just so they're here, here are all the links:
Facebook.com/Trucklube
twitter.com/#!/trucklubellc
www.www.linkedin.com/pub/trucklube-llc/48/20a/b89... (why so long?!)
Thanks again for the rocking help!

The menu is now level with the logo.

Thanks again for the rocking help!
You are very welcome. Let me know if there is anything else need help with.
Rockin' again. I swear, you got some major magic going on!
Looks great. I don't know what happened w the FB link. Used to work. I emailed him now - will find out what's going on.
He's pretty happy. Inevitably, a few new questions come up:
1 To tighten it up, so we can see most of the page on one page (and to address the testimonials below):
Can I remove the ~ 1 1/2 inches of blank space above the header and 1/2" below it?
2 Do you know anything about making the testimonials show one by one, as listed in another post that I have:http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/customizing_c5/scrolling-... I'm still having trouble with that.
3 Colors: he's fond of colors from a flier (I think it's:www.www.mytrucklube.com/files/9213/3034/7325/TLFlier.jpg).... He says he wants a black background and orange borders and something about orange columns. Will flesh out more about the columns.
just to run it by him, how can I makie it like techauto.com's with orange in the background and black in the forefront? do i need a new theme for that? I suspect I will have to change the logo/text combo to work with a black background. Will work on that with the photoshop gods (and some google).

nice look ;)
Use a 'Content' Block and edit accordingly.
The one at techauto is not actual text; It's part of the template design. Not readable by search bots.
The alternative would be to add the logo using the 'Content' block and next to the logo in the same block include the text "Your local independently owned mobile commercial service and repair company".
Another option would be to incorporate the text in.to the logo as part of the design.
Thats how I would have done it for you but I didn't want to start messing around with your stacks (just in case it isn't something you want to do).
