Adding registering users to a group automatically

Hello everyone.
Basically what I am wanting to do is have a page of pdf files the visitors can download. But I want to collect their email address when they do.
My plan was to make the page, and set the permissions to a specific group. As people access the page, it asks them to sign up. I have all of this working. The only problem I cant seem to get, is adding them to the group of users I have set up automatically when they register.
I am sure I am missing some thing simple, but cannot seem to find it.

It sounds to me like that's all you'd need. If you want to put users into another group – like, a specific real group that you control that you might put users in and take users out of – then you might want this addon:

It lets you specify an additional group to put users in when they register. From what you're describing I don't think you need this, but I thought I'd mention it.
