Advanced Permissions - Restrict User Group to specific block types on a page type

Permalink 1 user found helpful
OK... so I've been going round-and-round on this, trying to get it to work, and I just don't seem to be able to. I'm not sure where things are falling apart... and so maybe I just need someone to tell me how it's supposed to be done so that I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I want to setup a "Press Room Item" page type so that the "Main" area only allows the "Editors" group to add 3 different block types. I have gone into the Page Type Defaults... edited it... selected "Permissions" for the "Main" area... added the "Editors" group... and said that they can "Read", "Write" and "Delete" and checked off the three block types I want them to be able to use.

But regardless, when I log out and then log back in as an Editor, I can select ANY block type for that area.

Please tell me there's something stupid that I'm missing!!!!

Thanks!

- John

How did you choose the block types for a page type? I cant find how to do that. Do you know if you can set block types by user?

kailyone,

Well... I THINK you do it by going to the Dashboard/Page Types. Pick the page type you want to control and click the "Defaults" button. Now click "Edit" to put the Page Type in edit mode and if you click on an Area, you can pick "Permissions" and set the permissions for that area by User or User Group.

At least that's how it's SUPPOSED to work... it's just not working correctly for me.

NOTE: You need to have enabled "Advanced Permissions" on your site for this to be available (here's another Forum discussion with how to do that:http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/usage/advanced-permission... ... and, from what I've read, once you turn on Advanced Permissions, you don't want to go back. Even turning Advanced Permissions on after you've worked on a site for a while could cause some strange behaviors (not sure why, that's just what I've read).

Hope that helps.

Oh... forgot to mention in my original post: I'm trying this on Concrete v5.5.1.

Is there any issue with the Permissions Model on 5.5.1 that I'm not aware of?

Thanks!
