Advanced Permissions - again!
Hi all,
I'm playing with advanced permissions (perhaps playing isn't the right word!) but I've come across a problem and can't fathom out how to get it sorted.
I have a news section to the site, and each news article is added under the parent News page (which uses the page list block to list the articles). I have an autonav block on the parent page which produces a breadcrumb trail, and understandbly I don't want the end user to be able to edit or delete that block, so I went into the permissions for that block and edited it so that it's only 'read'.
Now the end user will be creating news articles by adding a page under the parent News page but those pages will also have that autonav breadcrumb trail.
Fine I thought, they'll inherit their parent's permission, locking that block to them.
No, not right. The end user will be able to edit the breadcrumb on any pages they create.
Is there a way to prevent this? Is there a way to edit the template page that the news articles are created from?
Any advice or help would be great.
Tony.

if you make that navigation on the page defaults for the page type they're making these default articles with, and you give them read, but no more access - they should see the nav but not be able to edit it.
Thanks Franz. I guessed that would be the solution, but I didn't want to mess around too much and risk breaking things.
Is there a way to block a particular group (in this case administrators) from adding a specific block? I didn't see any need in letting them add autonav or search because the site already has them built in.
Thanks again,
Tony.

for an area, you can control which groups can add which types of blocks through the area permissions.
Sorry to show my ignorance, but I assume an area permission is set for each page type, by selecting the Add... link to add another block and then selecting permissions when the list of blocks appear?
If so it seems this will have to be done for each page type.
I was wondering if there is one site-wide option to prohibit the addition of a block type by a group of users.
Thanks for your continuing help,
Tony.

nothing side wide, just use defaults to edit the page types in question.
Thanks again Franz.
I'll edit those on a page type basis.
