aliases visible?

I was really pleased when i found the copy>create alias function in the site map...
But when I use autonav or pagelist i can't get the aliases to be visible.
Isn't this one of the point of page aliases?
In my case i have a list of pages with a profile of each of the contributers of the site... The contributers then appear as profiles elsewhere on the site, and it would be most ideal not to have to duplicate them fully, certainly as they are likely to be frequently edited...

Aliases ARE visible in a page list but not in autonav.
Anyone know how you could make aliases show in autonav — is there a particular configuration?
Alternatively is there a way that page list can show automatically pages at current level? You can, of course, set page-list to display pages beneath a another page, or itself but If you want to set a block up as a default for a particular page which shows it's brother and sister pages (including aliases) then this is difficult without choosing a specific page, and therefore making the default/pagetype less versatile throughout the site.
