Amature Design

Just an observation. I've seen a lot of sites that look terrific. I've used many different themes, tried out 30 that I liked the look of.

Problem is that my builds always look pretty amateurish. I'm an amateur, no question. Just can't get past the stage where it isn't quite so obvious.

Just thought maybe someone could recommend a resource that could help me with the designs. I know I need to know much more about style sheets and such. Working on that.

Anyway, just a shortcoming I'm looking to overcome.

Thanks

Smashing Magazine is worth bookmarking:http://www.smashingmagazine.com/...

In general, I'd say read as much as you can about typography, color, design, photography, etc., and just keep your eyes open. When you see a site with a design you really like, bookmark it for later reference. I use delicio.us for this.

Best of luck!

(By the way, this probably really belongs in the "Themes" forum.)
