go to page properties, click exclude from nav. Automagically, it is out of your nav.

Now depending on your server, most will look for an index.html before they look for index.php, at least mosso and mediatemple did. So you could then just insert your "home" static as index.html and that would render.

Worried about people seeing your original homepage? Either make it so only administrators can see it or delete it entirely?
