Auto nav Excluding parent from nav adds children to the previous parent

Hi,
I have a parent with 3 child pages. i excluded parent from nav, but not child pages.
When i set autonav to display top level and display all subpages, these child pages are getting added to nav at parent level.
Is there a way where excluding parent from nav should not show its child pages, with out excluding child pages.
