Auto nav and Page alias

Hi
Has anyone figured out a solution to displaying page aliases with the Auto nav block? I see many unanswered posts on the matter which is strange being as it's a pretty core function of the CMS. I've created a parent page and excluded it from the usual as per this article https://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/editors/make-custom-... Is there a trick that I'm missing.
I'm experiencing this on 5.6.3.3
