Backing Up Site Before Updating
Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hi Guys,
So our website is currently running version 5.7.5.9.
Concrete5 says we should upgrade to 5.7.5.13 as well as update our add-ons.
Since the "backup" option has not been implemented in our current installation yet, I backed up our site on cPanel in case anything goes wrong with the update.
Am I good to go ahead to update or is there somewhere else I should back up my site before proceeding?
Thanks!

what is really important to backup is the database.
If you want yet another option, I've found the Softaculous backup feature (available within most CPanel accounts if you installed c5 that way) works well.
Using cPanel..
First go to File Manager, highlight your domain and click 'Compress' , choose zip archive and click 'Compress Files', when completed click 'Download' to get a copy of the zip file downloaded to your PC.
Next go to phpMyAdmin, highlight your database and click 'Export' and then click 'Go', this will download a copy of your database file to your PC.
That's it, you now have a complete backup of your site.

When doing a backup manually, simply copy all files under the c5 root directory somewhere and export the sql database ( running the site ) to a file.
The SQL exported to file is most important part.
