Best approach to having C5 accounts

Hi All,

I'm finding myself doing more and more with C5, but I was wanting some advice on the best account structure - in the sense of having a C5 login linked to a website, and how addons are purchased etc.

I'm a freelancer, and I work on 3 types of sites...

1. My own sites
2. My customer's sites
3. My customer's customer's sites (where my customer is a designer or agency)

With #3, I work as a subcontractor - generally there is a designer or agency who 'owns' the customer, I handle all the development but not the client relationship.

So my question is this - should I be using several C5 logins for purchasing addons, or do I do everything under my own login? Or should the customer (site owner) be setting up an account and providing me with the password?

And can addon licenses be transferred between C5 accounts if I change my mind later?

A fellow C5 member once shared this link with me.

It's on how to white-label C5 so it looks like your own system with your own logos and UI.

There is an option to disable Marketplace Support so add-ons can't be searched or added through the back-end of the site.

Hope this helps!

OK, cool.

So let's say I disable the marketplace integration...

I would then use my own C5 account to buy all addons for all sites I develop on, and then simply download and install the addons manually rather than connecting the site.

I'd definitely prefer to operate from a single C5 account - mainly so that I can use the "buy 5" feature and save a few bucks on addons that I will use regularly (which wouldn't be so practical when using separate C5 accounts).

I guess you could connect it to the community first, purchase and install your add-ons, then once you have finished, go back and disconnect it?

I'm fairly new my self, but I also noticed that there are some options on the site profile once you connect the site to C5 about choosing developer users etc that can download add-ons... maybe someone else can enlighten Sadu?

Yeah, That approach looks like it may work, though I'm not sure how things go in the future.

Ultimately I'm not trying to block the site owner from installing addons or connecting up their own C5 account if they want to. I'm really just trying to get my head about the role I play as a developer / subcontract developer, and how I should buy/deploy addons.

Anyone who has tried transferring ownership of a Google Analytics profile to another Google account will know what I'm talking about.

Kinda depends on how you want to approach it. If you think that your clients should own the add ons, then you may want to have them buy the add ons. If you want control, you can buy them and always have the client come to you for help.

In the case of the agency work, sounds like the agency would sort it out between the client and them.
