Blocking certain dashboard pages

With the simple permissions model, you can actually hide certain pages within the dashboard (so they don't show up in the left sidebar) by simply going through the sitemap and unchecking "View" for the user group in question.

How can you do this with the advanced permissions model?

I've setting the Home permissions for that user group to only "Read" and then manually setting the dashboard pages' permissions so that user group can't do anything (including "Read"), but it still shows up in the sidebar.

Be sure when setting the advanced permissions from the site map, to set the option on upper left to "Manually" and then select/deselect users. (If you aren't viewing the dashboard options, be sure you tic'd the box in the upper right of the site map page to show system pages)
(Sitemap and File Manager are set from the "Access" tab when you choose those buttons from the dash)

Thanks, Adreco. I've already tried what you suggested. Even when I manually set the permissions on the main dashboard page and any child system pages I wanted blocked from view, they still show up in the sidebar.

It doesn't look like I will need granular control over areas/blocks so I'll stick with the simple permissions model.

Hmmm... I just set up a new site that way and it worked out however: I added specific "Users" instead of "Group" permissions to get it to work for the editing plan I had. Maybe this is a possible difference.

I wiped out the entire db and did a fresh install. It's working now as desired so it must have been a problem during install.

Thanks for the help! :)
