Blog alert to members

I have setup a simple blog system using the Composer.

My client has asked if it is possible to automatically send email alerts for new blog entries. I have no idea how to do this if it is possible.

If it is, can anyone point me to a good tutorial or give a step-by-step. Thanks.

I've been meaning to investigate this myself, maybe this might be the way to do it:

ProBlog has a "subscribe" option for registered users that sends a "new post" email. They do need to subscribe though. It's illegal to solicit without consent.
