blog_entry.php causing a simple noob much confusion ... HELP please!

Hello! I'm new to C5 and have been playing around with a site I'm building ... I'm in a muddle over blog layout, which I suspect is because I'm missing some basic knowledge about C5.
I create a page with Page Type of "blog entry" via dashboard > sitemap and I get a fully featured blog entry (i.e. with breadcrumbs at top and post a comment feature at the bottom and date navigation entry in right column).
BUT if I create a page with another Page Type, say "right sidebar" and then I change the Page Type using the Design button in page edit mode I simply get a Title and a "posted by" and nothing else - no date navigation or post a comment feature.
I'm puzzled by all of this - I wanted to figure it out on my own. But if I look at blog_entry.php in my override folder I cannot see anything relating to the fully featured blog entry - so don't know what's triggering it. So can't begin to understand what's gone wrong.
Any help gratefully etc

Can I know, which theme you are using? First check what are the templates available for the page types. In most of themes, a default.php file is for the right sidebar page. So no need to create any other right-sidebar template.
