Blogging - changing layout and previous/next buttons

I just created a blog for my site. Two questions:

I want to change the overall layout of the blog page and have tried to do that in my Dashboard - Page Types - Settings and I tried to change it so it has a sidebar, eg, and it doesnt actually do it (just saves it and moves back to full page). I want to have a sidebar for my blog page type and it won't let me. How can i do that?

Also, the next and previous buttons down on that bottom. I want them to go to my next and previous blog and it only seems to navigate to my next and previous main pages. How can i get them to do that?

Thanks,
Dave

I found that we have in built pagination in the Page list display block. You just check on that option when you add this block. Say you have 10 blog posts and you put limits as 5 in the listing. So the pagination will come. If you need to flower this pagination with extra buttons or some thing, go to the block, override by copying to root folder, then add the css..
