caching a whole page?

currently the caching mechanism is for caching objects / blocks... Am I right?
Is it possible in any way to use the caching mechanism for a whole page?

Unfortunately it seems that there is no mechanism to cache the whole page.

Sounds like it's on the radar for a future release, but of course that doesn't help you right now :)
