calling in a block in dashboard page

I can't seem to get the block to render. seems like everything is there, but nothing happens.

how does the scrapbook do it?
yeah if you turn off the $v = View::getInstance(); $v->disableEditing(); or whatever it is you can actually add blocks and whatnot in the dashboard.
Block::getByName i think is what Mike is thinking of.

Chad did you ever get this to work? I would like to add a slideshow block to a page created from the dashboard.
