Cannot Add Pages - Access Denied??? Please Help!

Hi community,
I recently switched over to 5.7 and bought a new template (Newsprint). Everything looked good and ready for me to begin building a new site - BUT I'm totally stuck, unable to add any pages beyond the Home page. If I go to the sitemap and try to add a page I get a message that says I do not have access. My "admin" user has access turned on for everything and I have not activated Advanced Permissions. Can't seem to find anything helpful in the forums for this problems and I feel like I have my hands tied. Does anybody have an insight or suggestions for this problem?
