Cannot check for updates

There comes a point in time when I suspect I might be missing the fix-a-lot-of-weird-stuff update.

So, this is what I do:

1. I go to the Dashboard

2. I click System & Settings

3. I click Update Concrete5

4. It says "no updates available," but of course I don't trust it. It lies. it must be lying.

5. I click the [Check for updates] button.

6. I behold the awe-inspiring message:

5.5.2.1
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/edwardmartiniii/hellbender.net/updates/concrete5.5.2.1/concrete/controllers/dashboard/system/backup_restore/update.php:57) in /home/edwardmartiniii/hellbender.net/updates/concrete5.5.2.1/concrete/libraries/controller.php on line 356


This seems wrong, somehow. It seems as if there's something just not right. Maybe this is an indicator that there's something else wrong with my system.

Assuming this isn't exactly the error message I'm supposed to be seeing, what am I doing wrong?

The update checker is working fine – the bug is that it's incorrectly printing out the latest version instead of just refreshing the page. It's printing out 5.5.2.1 which is the latest version, which is the one you have.

When a new version comes out, when you check for updates, that version will print out on that page, and when you click back, you'll be able to download the new version.

In the next version of concrete5 we'll remove the accidentally printed out version number.

Ah, okay. That's a bug.

Well, I can handle that.

At least it's harmless. 8)

I have this problem also. I have installed Concrete5 5.5.2.1. I want to update to the newly released 5.6. I click check for updates in the dashboard and I get the same error message as the OP. When I click back in the browser it takes me back to the update page where it still says "No updates available." I can repeat this over and over again with no change. How do I upgrade to 5.6?

same problem here when updating from 5.5.2.1 to 5.6. Should we use the manual method on upgrading until this is fixed ?

We haven't released 5.6.0 to the auto-updaters. We will probably do this next Tuesday (provided there are no other interim updates that need to take place.) We usually like to wait a moment when doing a major update like this, which has some significant backward compatibility challenges.

it would be great if you guys published the fact that the latest stable version is available for download, but not auto-install/update.

I am guessing it would save a lot of people a lot of time trying to figure out what is wrong with their implementation of C5 and save you guys time responding to forum post about it.

I installed a fresh version of C5 5.6 and the update you guys have made are really, really nice. Absolutely no reason for anyone to select another CMS at this point!
