Can't delete page types

When I try delete a page type I get the following error message: "You must delete all pages of this type before deleting this page type."
I'm assuming this means to delete all the pages using the page type. I have deleted all the pages of this type so I don't know what the issue is.

You may want to double-check that there are no pages using that page type. Also, it may help to clear your site's cache.
I've checked all my pages and none are using the page type. I've also cleared my cache. No luck so far.
Make sure you don't have any pages in trash using the page type.
Go to sitemap, click 'advanced' and 'show system pages'. Click on trash and empty. Sometimes you need to click on each page under trash and delete them individually if the bulk deletion from trash doesn't work.

You may have a page "version" that is still using this page type.
Try deleting all page versions except for the active one.

FYI, to clear old versions, go to Sitemap, click on the page(s) that used the page type, go to Versions, click on all old versions except the current one, and hit the Trash symbol. (I had to figure this out.)
