Captcha Problem

Hi All
I am having a problem with the Captcha image not showing in a form block. All I see is a broken link icon. I have tried a couple of things I have seen in other posts such as making sure I am not in developer mode and changing the permissions for the elephant.ttf file but so far no joy.
Does anyone have any other ideas I could try to get it working.

I just installed the latest version of concrete5 and most things are going well. However, I just enabled user registration. Instead of a captcha I get a broken link.
I'm currently evaluating this on my Mac laptop running OSX 10.6.6. I've read elsewhere that perhaps this is a problem with libraries compiled into php?
