Change Order Numbers

Is there a way to change the generated order numbers? My client wants to change the numbers to read 1000087 (instead of 0000087). Basically, changing the first zero into a one so that the number displays correctly in their accounting system.
Or is this code you've written yourself?
With no knowledge of any of this, it's most likely that those numbers are coming from a database, and those values can therefore be changed in the database such that they are the correct value, or the interface logic makes them look like the right value.
