Community Points Categories

I am building a site that will utilize the community points system. Does anyone know how to categorize these points?
For instance, I would like to display that a member has 300 points in Category A and 200 points in Category B for a total of 500 points.
I know that there is something like that in use on concrete5.org because if you go to the Leaderboard page, the Community Points are broken down into categories. It seems like it's possible but I can't find any documentation or discussion on how to implement this.
