Company Directory: importing data into Concrete5

Hi,

I'm a designer not a programmer. In the past I've used Dreamweaver, but I haven't used any kind of CMS solution previously. I still find CSS a bit alien. I'm considering using Concrete5 for a forth-coming project.

The project requirements include:

1) a Company Directory [structured by category or name] with about 500 companies imported from an Excel spreadsheet.

2) a Private Members area including registration and password.

3) lots of aggregated content across many other pages with varying layouts that the client will need to be able to update on a rolling basis.

My question is:

Is Concrete5 suitable for this project, AND in particular, is Concrete5 able to import Excel data for the Company Directory?

Any comments would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

yes, but you're going to want an experienced php programmer on your side.

the company import should be handled as import script - we write these for our client's all the time but there's no out of the box way to handle it without getting into some code.

the private members thing should easily be handled if you turn on advanced permissions

the aggregated content and in-context editing should be a no-brainer..

the reason why you should choose concrete5 over any other CMS is your end client will actually feel comfortable editing and using their site - instead of being intimidated by it.

Thanks v much for the feedback [and so quick too!]

I know a couple of php coders locally that I could approach. However, given that you have direct concrete5 experience in this area, I am wondering whether your company would be able to offer a solution?

Are you able to give me some sort of ballpark estimate based on something like this please?:

Company name
Company category
contact name
contact number
weblink

x approximately 500

Oh... as you might want to discuss this offline, you can reply through my profile

Thanks
