Composer mini news to front page

Hi Guys,
I'm having my first look at composer for a simple blog/news function. The idea is a 'news' page which has the full article and then pull out the most recent (3?) entries out on the front page, probably truncated at xx words long.
I'm ok with page type and setting composer up, but what options do I have to pulling out the recent posts to the homepage?

Simply add it to your homepage and you'll have a nice truncated list of articles from your blog.
Go to homepage>> Edit Mode>> Add to main >> Add Block >> Select 'Pagelist' >> Configure to your liking>> Save>> Publish.
