Concrete5 and Doctrine DBAL

Hello everyone,
I am new to concrete5 development. My company application uses postgresSQL database at backend and front-end we are using concrete5 as CMS. My requirement needs to retrieve data from postgresSQL to CMS and have few logic to be developed. So I to develop concrete5 package.
My question is should I need to learn both Doctrine Orm and Doctrine DBAL for this requirement or just Doctrine DBAL is enough..
