Creating new page type issues

Permalink 1 user found helpful
OK. So my procedure to create a new page type:
1. Create separate php template (eg downloads.php) and uplaod to server
2. In Dashboard, go to Pages and Themes > Page Types
3. Add new page type
4. NAME THE PAGE TYPE THE SAME AS THE NEW TEMPLATE (eg Downloads)
5. Save and apply to page using 'Design'

But my page still applies the default template. Why?
I have refreshed the ftp server, the browser and clicked the 'Update page type' button. Nothing.

Any ideas please?

click inspect next to the theme that you added the page type to.

Hi,
It didn't work for me that way either. But it did work like this:
1. I added the PHP file to my theme
2. Went to the dashboard and clicked on themes
3. Clicked the inspect button next to the theme
4. There was then a checkbox with "Create page type." next to that php file, so I clicked okay.

*it may just have been that caching was on though

Same thing happened to me today. I found the problem was cache. I am new to concrete but it looks like you should have cache turned off for development.
