Dashboard Icon Attribute

There is a default page attribute called 'Dashboard Icon', it adds a text area to the page properties, I added it to a page and put some text in it, but I don't see what it does. I thought maybe I was going to get a link on the toolbar or in the dashboard. What's this attribute do?

If a page already shows on the main dashboard, it will show with the icon.

You can also set the icon in code, such as in a package controller for an addon page.
